New model in the works:

This'll be a ready-to-print model suitable for harbors or town scenes. Seemed like a good use of the Tall Hostel/Narrow House shape.

This set takes 4 pages to print at 28mm/30mm scale, will sit on a 3x6 base and comes with the two crates shown. Its footprint is 2.7" x 2.2" and it stands 8.6" high at the chimney.

Halfling Farmhouse in development

One of my projects is a Halfling Farmhouse, seen here before texturing. When I get to this point, I print out the lines on heavy paper and do an assembly test. That's what I'll be doing just as soon as I post this.

This is what my experiments with half-hipped roofs led to.

I-frame building, half-hipped roofs

Here's a paper test for half-hipped roofs (worked just fine), using the same shell as the Grey Hare Inn. I can modify this design in a lot of different ways, so this won't be the final configuration. Not entirely sure what kind of product this is going to be -- a Rake's Corner model, a multi-layered model with winter skins, the basis for a ruin -- maybe all three.

I laid out the wall lines for a new model, which naturally led me to the creation of the footprint. It occurred to me that I should set up some tile templates, since I'm working on a ground tile set. I made several templates for various tile sizes, and created this flagstone floor texture with optional snow layers.

Strike while the iron's hot. I haven't done a Rake's Corner model in a while, and it would be cool to revisit the Grey Hare Inn. It's a nice, simple I-frame design and I think it could really benefit from a Rake-over. Ha.

The Mermaid Tavern Winter Edition is my first model featuring snow textures. This is a modified version of the Mermaid Tavern model (available separately), with altered graphics and all-new snow layers. The two versions are perfectly compatible and complimentary. Working on a Winter Edition of the Mermaid Tavern. This is my first time adding snow textures to a fantasy/medieval model, so I went all-out.

There are fewer base layers to work with, but it makes room for all of the snow layers. As I expected, each layer needs it own snow treatment, and it's not just roofs -- walls, windows, doors, props all need their own snow layers.

Jerry Jensen is my art editor, final model assembler and writer of detailed instructions booklets. He also photographs every step of the assembly. Here's some of his handiwork.

These are a joy for me. Some day I'll explain my whole design process, but the first time I see my models realized -- in full color and made out of real paper -- is in photos like these. I build my white paper tests to check the geometry, and then discard them after they've served their purposes.

New look for my website

Spent the last couple of days giving my site a makeover. You can see the results at www.davesgames.net.

This was a long time coming, but the actual work didn't take very long. My website was originally designed to showcase 8 models, three years ago. Over time, I've built up a collection of... actually, I don't know how many models I've designed. Let's count.

94 model sets! There's a couple of re-designs in there, so let's say about 90 unique designs. I guess that's a lot!

Anyway, my catalog sure has grown and something had to be done. I'm going to do make some touch-ups to the current design. This really is a never-ending process.
